Teenage Boys' Gilets
A teenage boy gilet is the layer for days that are too cold for a hoodie alone and too mild for a full coat. MINOTI's gilets for boys aged 8 to 15 have no sleeves, so they keep the chest and back warm while the arms stay free for cycling, a kickabout in the park or carrying a school bag. A gilet sits well over a sweatshirt or jumper in autumn and spring.
Gilets are sized by height in centimetres, so measure your son rather than going by age. For a boys' gilet at age 12, 158 cm is the usual size. If he is between sizes, go up one so a jumper fits underneath. A gilet is the same garment some shops call a body warmer. Under an open coat it adds warmth without bulky sleeves. Check the care label on each gilet before washing.
Your questions answered
MINOTI's Gilets collection for teenage boys contains sleeveless gilets for boys aged 8 to 15 in height-based sizes such as 146 cm for a 10-year-old and 158 cm for a 12-year-old, for layering over jumpers or under coats.
What size gilet does a boy need at age 10?
A boy at age 10 usually takes 146 cm. For a boys' gilet at age 9, 140 cm is the usual choice, and at age 11 it is 152 cm. If he is tall for his age, go up one size.
Is a gilet warm enough for a teenage boy in winter?
On a cold winter day a gilet is rarely enough on its own, because the arms are uncovered. It suits mild days of around 10 to 15°C over a hoodie or jumper, and in colder weather it works under an open coat. For full winter cover, see Jackets & Coats.
