Go by his height rather than his age. A 3-year-old usually takes 104 cm and a 6-year-old 122 cm. If he is between sizes, choose the larger one so the waistband sits comfortably as he grows. Trunks are sold in some shops as boxer briefs, and the fit is the same. Socks are not sized by height, so check the size on the product page, and wash them inside out so fluff does not collect on the outside.
