Every coat is sized by height in centimetres. Measure your child standing and pick the size at or just above their height, which leaves room for a jumper underneath. A 4-year-old usually takes 110 cm and a 10-year-old 146 cm. A gilet, which some shops call a body warmer, adds warmth over a hoodie without bulky sleeves. Check the care label on each coat before washing.

What size coat should I buy for a 7-year-old?
Most 7-year-olds take a 128 cm coat. If your child is tall for their age, or you want room for a thick jumper underneath, go up to 134 cm. Check their height against the size shown on the product page.
Should a baby wear a padded coat in a car seat?
No. Take a thick or padded coat off before strapping a baby into a car seat, as it can leave the harness too loose. Once they are buckled in, lay the coat over the harness. The same goes for older children in a 5-point harness.
