Your questions answered

Is a parka warm enough for winter?

Yes. This one is padded, has a quilted lining and reaches mid-thigh, so it copes with cold, windy school runs. On frosty days add a jumper underneath.

Which size should I order?

Sizes follow height: 104 fits about 3–4 years and 172 about 14–15 years. Take his usual size, as the cut leaves room for a hoodie, and go one up only if it has to last two winters. The ribbed inner cuffs keep a slightly long sleeve in place at the wrist.

What are the chest pockets for?

They sit high and close with zips, so a bus pass, key or phone stays put. The two big flap pockets lower down are for warming hands.

Can I machine wash it?

Yes, at 30 °C on a gentle cycle, with the zip and poppers closed and the jacket inside out. Skip the fabric softener and the tumble dryer; hang it up to dry so it keeps its shape.

What's the difference between a parka and a puffer jacket?

A puffer is usually shorter, with the quilting stitched through the outside. This parka has a smooth shell, reaches mid-thigh and has more pockets; the quilting stays in the lining.
