Yes. The cotton breathes and the short legs stay in place when he runs, so they work under school trousers and PE shorts alike.
What size boxers for a 12 year old boy?
Go by his clothing size: most 12-year-olds wear 152 (11–12 years) or 158 (12–13 years). The range runs from 98 (2–3 years) to 172 (14–15 years); if he is between two sizes, take the larger one.
Why is each waistband a different colour?

How should I wash them?
