Is it warm enough for winter?
It is a padded jacket, and the narrow quilting stops the filling from shifting to the bottom of each channel. It suits cold, damp autumn and winter days; when it freezes, add a jumper or fleece underneath.
Which size should I order?
His usual size: the hip-length cut leaves room for a jumper. Sizes run from 104 (3–4 years) to 172 (14–15 years); if he is between two, go up one so it lasts the whole season.
What does the print on the back say?
'ONLY THE BRAVE SURVIVE' in white capitals across the lower back, with a thin line of coordinates underneath. A round badge sits on the sleeve.
Can it go in the washing machine?
Yes: 30 °C on a gentle cycle, zip and pockets closed, inside out so the back print isn't rubbed. Dry it flat or on a hanger and shake it now and then; no tumble dryer and no iron.
How is it different from a long padded coat?
It stops at the hip, so it doesn't get in the way on a bike, a scooter or the climbing frame. The zipped pockets keep keys and a phone safe while he runs about.
