Baby sizes follow your baby's length in centimetres. A newborn usually takes 56 cm, a 4-month-old 68 cm and a 1-year-old 86 cm. If your baby is long for their age, go up a size. Babies grow fast, so one size ahead is a sensible choice for gifts. In British shops a vest is what others call a bodysuit, and a baby grow is the same thing as a sleepsuit. Check the care label on each item before the first wash.

What size should I buy for a newborn baby?
Most newborns fit 56 cm. Bigger babies often go straight into 62 cm, the 0 to 3 month size. If you are buying before the birth and do not know the weight yet, 62 cm gives a few more weeks of wear.
Are unisex baby clothes a good choice for a baby shower gift?
Yes. They work even if you do not know whether it is a boy or a girl. Choose 68 cm for 3 to 6 months or 74 cm for 6 to 9 months, so the baby grows into the gift after the first weeks, when newborn clothes are often plentiful.
