Baby Hats for Newborns and Little Ones

Baby hats from MINOTI keep a small head covered on pram walks, school runs with older siblings and trips to the park. Babies lose heat quickly through the head, so a hat is often the first thing to go on before heading out in autumn and winter. Pick one in a colour that goes with the coat or pramsuit your baby already wears, so the outfit works as a whole.

Hats are not sized in the same way as clothes, so check the size on each product page before you order. If your baby is between sizes, go up one, as babies grow fast in the first year. A hat that is too tight presses on the forehead and soon gets pulled off, while one that is too loose slips over the eyes. Check the care label before washing, and if the hat is knitted, dry it flat to help it keep its shape.

Your questions answered

MINOTI's Baby Hats collection brings together hats for newborns and babies up to 24 months from the British childrenswear brand, for pram walks and cold days out, with the size of each hat shown on its product page.

How do I choose the right hat size for a newborn baby?

Check the size shown on the product page, as hats are not sized in centimetres like clothes. If your baby was born on the large side or is close to 3 months old, choose the next size up so the hat still fits after a few weeks of growth.

Should my baby wear a hat indoors or when sleeping?

No. Take the hat off once you are indoors. UK safe sleep advice is that babies under 1 year should not sleep in a hat indoors, because they cool down through the head and can overheat. Keep hats for outdoors, and feel the back of the neck: warm is fine, sweaty means too many layers.
